About

The Black Sunday Movement promotes free speech, a free press and democracy in Singapore. Singapore has been under an authoritarian rule since the PAP has come into power in 1959. Free speech is curtailed to such an extend that self censorship is evident in our culture. Anyone, who speaks up against the regime is ostracized , detained without trial or jailed. Political commentators have been jailed for making their observations public. Recently, Alan Shadrake was jailed for making comments about our judiciary.

We educate the public through events and encourage people to come out and discuss politics through social settings like  cafes and restaurants. Even though there are parliamentary elections every 5 years in Singapore, Singaporean are concerned that they will be tracked and penalized should they vote for any alternative party.
